REPORT SUMMARY:
It has been “old home week” here at El Pescador Lodge. Great to finally meet the “International Association of Fly Fishing Veterinarians!” They are a group – serious about their speakers, conference and especially their fly fishing! And then, Michigan’s own, Ray Schmidt arrived with his group. Ray is considered family here at El Pescador Lodge. I have never seen our guide Sinoe so excited! They have been a team in the boat for over 20 years. Ray has been teaching the staff here some of his secrets to tying flies that work magic in the salt. We are loving it! Ray’s group found me out in the lagoon today – my Sunday time. I enjoy poling the canoe around. It is quiet and I can see fish better when I am standing – the quiet usually ends when I see fish…but sometimes it all comes together. Today was one of those days. I was hell bent on making sure each fly landed like a pin drop, and right on their nose. A few were successful, and on flies tied with Ray this morning. I pointed the group to where the Roseate Spoonbills were hanging out…….Jeff couldn’t wait to wade his white sandy beach in the north lagoon…I glanced over my shoulder as I poled back to the dock – shimmering tails in the lee. Another adventure shared with “adventurous spirits.” Finding those innocent moments…….uncluttered thinking…….and counting on natural instincts to follow.
