Mar 1 - Mar 7th 2010 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Bigger bonefish were seen and landed this week. Conditions were tough, but Mr. Bonefish came out to play with patient anglers. Several 3 to 4 pound fish were landed.
TARPON: Several of the boats were focused on chasing tarpon this week. Anglers paid their dues
.3 jumped, none landed.
PERMIT: The permit did what they do best, stayed elusive. As soon as it warms up, it will be another story.
JACKS: Mr. Jack was our hero this week! Several nice jacks between 10 15 pounds landed
SNOOK: Mr. Snook was seen but not targeted.
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONES: Christmas Island Specials, Charlies and Gotchas. Tan, gold, sexy patterns. Okay, we are using patterns tied on.... circle hooks. Size 8.
FOR TARPON: Black Beauties and Grizzle Bunnies, some Toad patterns as well.
FOR PERMIT: Orange and pink Christmas Island Specials size 4 and Merkins.
REPORT SUMMARY:
We are all ready for our prevailing sea breeze, as our veteran guide Carlos Marin calls it. Guides and guests have made the best of a week dominated by cold fronts. Wayne and Dave jumped some tarpon and that image of the mighty silver king throwing the hook has a permanent place in their minds. The good news is the jack fishing was exceptional this week. Time is precious when you drop your everyday life and go fishing in Belize. My rewards come from watching faces relax over a week of fishing yes, and even in bad weather conditions. Anglers leave the dock each morning and return with their fish stories. Its a time to express delight in nature. How many times have you caught a pelican? How about those Roseate Spoonbills that put the biggest splash of deep pink in the sky. And lets not forget the one that got away! So much more goes on in a fishing trip way beyond what is brought to the boat via a line. It is what keeps up coming back for more .allowing ourselves to express something in us from a place of passion.
