Mar 8 - Mar 14th 2010 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Bigger bonefish continue to keep all of our interest for the "ghost of the flats". Tough wind makes for spooky fish, but very gratifying when caught.
TARPON: One 40 lb. tarpon landed this week - other bites, jumps, stories.
PERMIT: Three permit landed this week, the biggest was 24 lbs! Happy anglers.
JACKS: Mr. Jack was our hero again this week! Several nice jacks between 10 15 pounds landed
SNOOK: Mr. Snook was seen but not targeted.
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONES: Christmas Island Specials, Charlies and Gotchas. Tan, gold, sexy patterns. Okay, we are using patterns tied on.... circle hooks. Size 8.
FOR TARPON: Black Beauties and Grizzle Bunnies, some Toad patterns as well.
FOR PERMIT: Orange and pink Christmas Island Specials size 4 and Merkins.
REPORT SUMMARY:
In the salt, light is a good thing. Seeing the fish swim across a flat in your direction and feeling that anticipation is what the game is all about. Watch a school of permit fly through the water, and when one decides to take on your fly .heart attack material. Coming tight to a tarpon, and feeling the power of the fish in your line is nothing short of magic. So, when the wind is up, making it tough for all anglers, fly or spin, it feels like a miracle when it all comes together. It happened this week for a group of satisfied anglers. Award ceremonies noted our anglers this week that put it all together. OK, now we are ready for some easy days!
