April 8, 2012 - April 14, 2012 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: All boats had no problem picking up bonefish at will. The largest of the week was a nice 6 pounder from Charles with his guide Kechu.
PERMIT: Permit were more active this week with Jim (guide Emir), a different Jim (guide Tomas), Bob (guide Carlos) all catching permit from 5-15 pounds. A well deserved permit for Charles and (guides Tomas). After 20-30 shots over the previous 6 days (many of those shots well executed) Charles could not get a permit to pull the trigger. Lots of follows but they would not eat. On day 6 Charles saw a silver flash on a grass patch and instinctively threw 2 feet to the left of it thinking bonefish. On one strip a permit shot out of the patch and crushed his fly!
TARPON: Jim landed a 25 pound beauty on Monday (part of his grand slam). Tuesday Joe landed a 50 tarpon with guide Raton. Thursday, a tarpon for Bob and guide Carlos, Another tarpon for Joe and guide Raton on light tackle. Another boat hooked 3 on a morning on Savannah. No migratory fish yet.
SNOOK: Not targeted.
FLIES THAT WORKED
All sorts of bonefish flies including tan Crazy Charlies, Gotchas, CI specials, and many, many others. Permit: size 4 gotcha with longish tail, Avalon, other shrimp patterns Tarpon – SST poon fly, chartreuse toad, tarpon bunny white.
