April 15, 2012 - April 21, 2012 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Even in the wind bonefishing was plentiful. A number of first bonefish were recorded by Joanne, Tom, Kyle, Beth, & Jeremy, Bill, Sean, Tyler and Shelby. Beth and Jeremy had not fly fished before this trip so it was an even bigger accomplishment! Joanna, Alison and her Dad had a great day with their guide Erlindo. Special notes go to Shelby who at 7 is my youngest bonefish pin award recipient. Her slightly older brother was right behind her with a bonefish award pin of his own!
PERMIT: Jon from Norway along with his guide Kechu, landed the first permit of the week. In fact it was the first fish he saw, and the first cast he made. Since Jon’s goal is a grand slam, they headed to tarpon country but the wind made the water fairly cloudy. They had a couple shots but no bites a day without a permit and then another one mid week. Calm weather and sunny skies on Friday brought a permit and bonefish to the boat for Don and with Kechu his chance for a grand slam very real as he got a tarpon to eat. Rick landed his first permit this week. Several others were hooked.
TARPON: Flats were too windy early in the week. Then the winds died completely but the clouds and lack of sun mid week. But Philip with guide Tomas jumped 2 on his last day despite the dark skies. Our long time friend George and guide Sinoe got a nice one to eat, and jumped a couple more during the week We have a feeling the migratory fish are coming soon! Sunny skies and calm weather improved chances with several boats hooking up on Friday but still none were landed. The winds were too clam, it was beautiful to see tarpon rolling at a quarter mile away, but it also made them sensitive to boat waves and line dropping near them. We always wish for calm but the truth is 5-10 miles per hour is the best for fishing out here!
SNOOK: Snook were not targeted.
FLIES THAT WORKED
permit: Christmas Island Special/pink size 4, Turneffe Crab tan size 6, Emir’s homemade shrimp cocktail ( don’t ask me I don’t know what it is!) bonefish: gotcha’s, .crazy Charlie tan, CI special. Tarpon Chatreuse bunny, black death, white deceiver.

- Partly Cloudy the first half but mid week brought calm winds but rainy weather – the winds stayed calm the rest of the week with partly cloudy skies.
- Air Temp:
- Highs were in the upper 80’s and the lows were in the mid 70’s. A few of the calm days were very humid, so it felt like it was in the mid 90’s.Winds: We went from too much wind (15-20 mph) the first half of the week to calm weather (0-5) the last half of the week.
