May 25 - May 31 2014 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING
We had some terrific family fishing this week here at EP. Joe brought his son Harrison, and his friend Chris brought his son Trip for two days of some fun bonefishing! They got out there on the casting platform in 20 mph wind to make sure they were warmed up and ready to go. The practice paid off as they were all awarded their bonefish on fly pins! Les was here with his son Luke and they too landed bonefish on fly! Marc was here a month ago and brought back his beautiful family. Chase and Hunter were up first thing in the morning ready to go out with their dad and Captain Jr. They practiced their double haul and all three of them landed bonefish on fly. The Caplinger Family had a fun sampler this week and they plan on returning. Next time Rebel will fish! Jeep and Kat have been having a great time with Captain Sinoe and have landed some really nice bones on fly. Roy has been here several times, and this time he has his sons Wade and Lawrence with him. Wade knows the drill – he has been here fishing with Captain Kechu. This is Lawrence’s first bonefishing trip. At first Lawrence was wide eyed and wondering how it was all going to come down, but now he has bonefishing on the flyrod wired. They have been watching “Buccaneers and Bones” and feel that Captain Kechu is portrayed as too aggressive. They want the world to know that they love him and that he really is a gentle soul! (Kechu is having a mellow week!!). Dominic and Hillary are here with their friends Danny and Shawna. They too have been watching B&B and are thrilled to be here in person. Hillary and Shawna have been practicing their casts and Dominic and Danny are packing each day with as much fishing as possible! And we were thrilled to Dave and Donna back. They went out with Captain Alex for three days and Donna landed the biggest bonefish! (I think she was more excited about the barracuda, but she did land a big bone!). Dave continued on with Captain Kechu chasing large fish in the sea. Rosie and Joe also landed bonefish and we hope to see you two back here soon! Congratulations to all of you. This was a tough week for wind, but you showed outstanding sportsmanship and went out there and made things happen!
We were really, really hoping Dominic would get a permit on fly with Captain Vince. It could still happen? No permit landed this week. Some great shots, but that was it.
Tarpon fever at the lodge this week. Rob and Donn left at 4:30 for several mornings with Captain Emir and they were rewarded! Donn landed his tarpon on spin and the next day Rob got his on fly! John surprised his brother David with a fishing trip to EP for his big 50. Well, Dave landed his tarpon on spin with Captain Cesar, and then John landed his tarpon on spin the next day with Captain Cesar! (see El Pescador’s facebook page). Congratulations to all of you.
Stories….barracuda takes the bonefish for a ride. Happened twice this week!
Some really nice jacks landed on fly. Big fun.
Flies that worked:
Bonefish: Crazy Charlie, Gotcha, Bunny Gotcha’s, CI Special’s (orange, pink and pearl), small crabs.
Permit: Turneffe Crab, Avalon, Big Squimps!, Mantas shrimp patterns – size 4.
Tarpon:Black Death, Chartreuse toad, White toads and bait fish patterns.
Guide of the Week:
It’s a tie. Captain Cesar and Captain Emir both got their anglers into tarpon this week! They left early in big wind and came back with a boat of big smiles.
Wow. I can speak for all of the people who work here at El Pescador and say a big Thank You! We were so happy to see Dr. Marc bring his family to El Pescador after just being here last month! Dave and Donna – we love you guys. Rob is family and Donn we hope you become a neighbor! Roy and Wade – thanks for showing Lawrence what goes on here. Mike and Sue, I know Erlindo is thrilled to see you two! Cindy and Roy were here and it was hard to say goodbye. So until next time! And thanks for all the volleyball game support. And here we are, the first of June! Looks like an action packed month for us as we are sold out for several weeks! If you are reading this and looking forward to your trip, practice that cast! Even 5 minutes here and there really makes a difference. I’m saying this because when you look at that giant tarpon chasing your fly, you won’t be calm. And a big heartfelt thank you to the guides we work with. This guide team has grown so much over the past few years. They show up every morning knowing their anglers are so excited to make their dreams happen. And the El Pescador guide team does just that – make it happen! And as we say here in Belize, “Why not?”
