June 26 2011 - July 1, 2011 Fishing Report

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONES: Julie and Leslie landed her first bonefish on their first day ever fly fishing thanks to some casting lessons by guide Tomas. A big 6 pound bonefish was landed by Jeff even in the unrelenting win. They reported several more shots of some big fish that day.
PERMIT: 4 hookups with 2 boats out looking for permit but none to the boat. Early in the week repeat guests Hackney & Jenn landed a nice 10 pounder.
TARPON: Bo and Tyler jumped 5 fish and landed one on Sunday just before the winds began part way through the day. After that only Leon from Denmark jumped 2, but that was it for the rest of the week besides a few follows.
SNOOK: Snook were not targeted or seen
OTHER: Barracuda, snapper, and jacks were landed.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONES: Gotchas, crazy charlies, christmas island specials – anything small and moving.
FOR TARPON: Black Death (tarpon bunny style) size 2/0
FOR PERMIT: Christmas Island Specials, Spawning Shrimp

REPORT SUMMARY:

Somehow everyone who went out was successful if they targeted bonefish. There were a few places that the water was clear and the winds were sheltered and the guides did a great job finding fish. Several guests had their best luck while wading this week. The tarpon fishing is especially hard hit when the winds get up around 15 mph. so 20-25 really shut it down. The last day saw winds easing to 15 or so with the promise of calm winds in a few days. --Ed
