June 29 - July 6 2014 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING
Check out Jay’s selfie! He has been stalking the beachfront bones each time he and Amber are here. This time he landed one! Looks like a tannish fly worked, not sure of the pattern? Way to go Jay. And we can’t wait to welcome our new baby angler! Reeves and Allison are here again and this time Allison landed her first bonefish on fly! Jeremy and Hannah were here for the first time – Hannah said “no way was she going to use the fly rod…”, Hannah is now a convert and damn good fly caster. They both landed bonefish on the fly. Ellen and Marty were here for their 30th wedding anniversary. Ellen told me, “we are here to fish!” And that they did. They landed several bonefish on fly. Nick brought his son Nick – both landed bonefish on the fly and now young Nick said he wants to come back and slam on fly. Love it. Fred told me, “What can more wonderful to watch your son catch fish on the fly!” This is what happened when he and Morgan went out and landed several bonefish. Dick and Nick landed some nice bonefish while staked out looking for tarpon. Bill and Dan landed everything under the sun and also some nice bonefish. Way to go guys. Tony was here with his clan. Tony and his sons – Holden, Finn and Michael landed several bonefish on fly and spin. They also ventured out in the lagoon every chance they could for more action. Phillipe and his son Henri were awarded bonefish pins. Phillipe really de-coded the back lagoon fishing and found some dandy bones. Jim and Maggie also ventured out and came back with bonefish stories. Suzy landed some nice bonefish with Captain Vince. The bottom line – the bonefish are back on the flats in full force and everyone is loving it.
Nigel and Tom were out with Captain Kechu and chased one school of permit for four hours until they got the shot. Tom was rewarded! Check out the photo. I know Nigel, even though it wasn’t his permit, couldn’t be happier for his son. As I write this, it’s Sunday. The report is due, but we have to announce the permit for today! Seems the bonefish are coming on the flats and mudding up a storm. And behind this mud storm are schools of permit! Captain Jr. got Nick into permit all day today and yes, Nick landed a nice one. Jr. really likes the Gotcha Bunny in size 4. Captain Luis had Reeves and Allison in permit all day as well, and yes, Reeves landed one on an Avalon. Yay!
JT and his wife Maryann were overjoyed when Maryann landed her first tarpon on spin with Captain Cesar. JT had a nice one on fly and got it right to the boat but lost it when it decided to bolt for the sea once again. Chris was also fishing with his wife Suzy – Chris landed a nice tarpon on spin with Captain Vince. Savannah flats has been off color from all the wind, but guess what – that’s when they bite! And for those that have headed down south to Long and Hicks Cayes have seen fish, but it was a ton of work. Big waves and blind casting, but those anglers were rewarded with what I call, “The handshake from God.”
Wow. A lot of barracuda on fly and spin. Big fun and great for your “landing a fish” game.
