July 5th - July 11th 2010 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Everyone was catching bonefish despite the winds with several boats with 15 landed in a day. The fish were smaller with the largest topping out at 4 pounds.
PERMIT: Our guide Emir did not give up on permit with 7 permit to the boat in one day for star of the week Ken M. He continued to land at least one permit a day after that with the exception of the last day that was dedicated to tarpon.
TARPON: The winds really put the brakes on the tarpon. The flats were a little cloudy making sight fishing tough. A few were jumped but none came to the boat.
OTHER: Jacks, barracudas, snappers were all caught as a few days had to be devoted to these alternative but fun species.
SNOOK: No snook were reported.
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONES: Christmas Island Specials size 6. Gotcha size 6, and a fly that looked like a muddler minnow tied with lead eyes (If anyone knows the name, let me know!)
FOR TARPON: Black Death.
FOR PERMIT: Christmas Island Specials size 6 and 4.
REPORT SUMMARY:
Congratulations to Ken M. who was visiting us for the first time. Despite the weather, Ken landed 7 permit his first day, followed by at least one each day for the next 4 days. He accounted for every permit landed this week. His guide Emir had a streak going of 6 days in a row with permit to his boat! The Martin family returned with everyone catching bones with a few tarpon hooked. Reid, the youngest of the family, took on the challenge of catching a bonefish on a fly with a hand line with no rod at all. Fishing from the dock in front of the lodge, it took him 45 minutes! “Get my Dad!, Get my Dad!” could be heard around the island! The next day he saw a permit but to no avail... Next year Reid!
