July 21, 2013 - July 27, 2013 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Carolyn and Ron had their best bonefishing ever with over 20 each – Carolyn’s best was 5 pounds and Ron’s was 4.5 pounds – Capt. Erlindo does it again! Young Christopher and Capt. Kechu did some wading for some bigger bonefish since it was a little too windy for the tarpon flats. John finished up his quick trip with some bonefish on his last day on Sunday with Capt. Cesar. AJ and his bride Jennie did well but it looks like AJ is now addicted to salt water, and they will return! Buck and Jake tore up the bone fish stopping at 35 for the day but then added another dozen fish of different species. Capt. Erlindo said they wanted to come back early cause they caught so many fish!. Returning guest Wade, his brother Lawrence and his Dad Roy got into many bonefish their first day on Saturday, a couple big one at 5 pounds!
PERMIT: There were only a few anglers at the lodge this week and no one pursued permit wholeheartedly with the exception of 14 year old Christopher. Capt. Kechu and Christopher had a few nice shots but no permit were hooked, a couple hit the fly but didn’t stick! Christopher is planning a tour of the US in which he hopes to land a fish in every state in the US over the next few years and blog about the experience.
TARPON: Only a couple days were spent looking for tarpon with a boat going out on Thursday when the winds were lighter. Capt. CInoeh landed one and jumped three on his boat. Returning guest Dave jumped 2 on Friday on Savannah flats with Capt. CInoeh and got a coupe to bite the next day. He will be here into next week so we will see if Dave can come through!
OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, ladyfish, barracudas, snapper, pufferfish, triggerfish.
FLIES THAT WORKED
BONEFISH: Ron’s UV shrimp (you’ll have to ask Ron at Hook and Hackle!), Crazy Charlie, CI Specials
TARPON: White bunny, tan toad, chartreuse bunny
GUIDE OF THE WEEK
Captain Cinoeh for his tarpon savvy!
Pretty nice weather but not too many anglers here to enjoy it - only a few boats going out most days. Everyone was able to land as many bonefish as they pleased but tarpon and permit were fairly elusive. ---Ed.
