August 4, 2013 - August 10, 2013 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
GRAND SLAMS: Congratulations to Marco who was able to land a nice tarpon a huge permit and a tiny bonefish… for some reason the bonefish took 3 hours to get, they were sweating bullets as it got later. Same thing happened to our Australian friend Barney, got the tarpon and permit and spent 2 hours for the bonefish!!! I think it is the hot calm weather so the afternoon fishing has been slower! Captain Emir was the leader of both of these slams that were on a combination of light tackle and fly rod. And then…Barney’s lovely wife Olivia went and slammed! All slams were on spin – all with Captain Emir.
BONES: David, Jerry, Casey, Charlie all got bonefish , Father and Son Russ and Russell beat up the bonefish again on their second day out on the water. Lisa and Patrick had a good day in the lagoon on their own finding some bigger bonefish in some very shallow water. Driscoll and Sherry qualified easily for their bonefish pin awards after chasing tarpon most of the day. Father and son Gary and Gary threw at some permit but landed some bonefish with Capt. Luis at the helm. Day Trippers Eric and Stephen did some bonefish with Capt. Raton…. Camille made it out solo to the back lagoon system and was able to stalk some bones on her own. Our Australian friends Crom, Vivian, Barney and Olivia continually added bonefish as their trip progressed. A GIANT bonefish, measured 5 lbs, landed on fly by Charlie with Capt. Kechu.
PERMIT: Jerry came through and broke the permit drought! He and his guide Capt. Erlindo came through with a good permit on Sunday! Harold and Karin hooked 3 and Harold landed his, at 80 years old he is my hero! Capt Luis was on the poling platform and intercepted a school of mudding permit and the guests made the shots! Michelle hooked an nice on early in the week, Barney had one on… Marco landed a beauty on his way to a grand slam with Capt. Emir.
TARPON: A 3 tarpon day from one of the 5 Australians in house this week. Olivia was using live bait with Capt. Emir. They had several more on as well. Cale picked up the first fly caught tarpon of the week with his trusty guide Capt. Cinoeh. The following day Peter was able to land his first tarpon ever thanks in part to Capt. Vince. Driscoll and Sherry hooked 3 tarpon but none got past the first jump. Ed and Capt. Tomas went out on a busman’s holiday and landed a nice 25 pounder on Thursday. A solid tarpon capped off the grand slam for Marco with Capt. Emir on the back of the boat.

FLIES THAT WORKED
