August 6, 2012 - August 12, 2012 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Father and son guests Dave Sr. and Dave Jr. went out with father and son guides Gilberto and Luis catching their first bonefish. Matt and Sue were treated to their first bonefish ever with veteran guide Capt Luis Acosta. Carolyn appreciated Erlindo guiding her to a first bonefish on Saturday. Lauren (attending McAllister in the fall) landed her first bonefish ever this week!
PERMIT: Aki and Mike were the proud recipients of permit pins this week! . Mike and Capt Tomas teamed up for a nice permit on Monday. Aki got a grand slam last week and added another permit with a last minute 3/4 day of fishing in with his daughter Lauren and Capt. Gilberto on Friday his departure day
TARPON: JJ’s quest for tarpon was foiled with several jumped but none to the boat.. Mike got a beauty in the beginning of the week (see the picture) Lloyd landed his first tarpon as well. The flats were generally too windy this week to pursue tarpon full force.
SNOOK: Snook were not targeted.
FLIES THAT WORKED
For Bones: Christmas Island Specials size 6 and 8, Gotchas, Crazy Charlie Tan, Del's Merkin size 8
Permit: Christmas Island Specials, size 4, Gotcha size 4.
Tarpon: Black Death, Chartreuse Bunny, White Deceiver.
GUIDE OF THE WEEK
Captain Tomas for Mike’s Tarpon, bonefish and permit – Next time he will do it all in one day!
REPORT SUMMARY:
Even though the storm put a damper on a few days this week, the Monday before the storm was great with bonefish, permit and tarpon to boats, but the end of the week was too windy to be ideal. The few days we did fish ended up with decent totals.
Special kudos to Lonni and Suzanne who are amazing fly casting students! They, along with their husbands Mike and JJ, spent their first wedding anniversary here. Suzanne and Mike are also having a baby in January!!! I might have some baby sitting duties next year! ---Ed
