September 27th - October 3rd 2010 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Bonefish were no problem for any anglers this week with boats reporting 3-20 bonefish per day. Those 20 fish days could have been a lot more as those guests only fished for bones for a few hours. Largest was 4 pounds.
PERMIT: Returning guest Tom from Jackson, WY and his guide Emir targeted permit most of the week landing 5 the first day with two more singles days after that. Other boats reported several shots, follows and takes, but none to the boat.
TARPON: Tarpon seemed slow as 2 boats went out for tarpon without any takes. Marc did manage to hook up his first tarpon estimated to be 30 pounds, but it didn’t last long and left him shaking his head in amazement at how fast it all happened. Bill came through on the last day with two tarpon, one at about 40 pounds. It ended up going under the boat and breaking his rod before he landed it.
SNOOK: No snook were targeted or caught.
OTHER: Lots of jacks of all sizes were caught with a nice 20 pounder landed and released. Many nice after hours bonefish and lady fish were landed while fishing the beaches near the lodge. Barracuda, snappers, moonfish were all landed on the fly.
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONES: Gotcha size 6, 8. Christmas Island Specials size 6. Crazy Charlies in pink, tan size 6, 8. Really just about any fly seemed to work.
FOR TARPON: Blue/White Deceiver, Orange cockroach size 2/0.
FOR PERMIT: Christmas Island Special size 6, Emir's Pink Cl size 6.
REPORT SUMMARY:
Week’s Summary: The fishing was fantastic for bonefish with pretty much unlimited numbers to those who concentrated on them. Permit fishing was good one day, bad the next even though weather and tides seemed the same. Tarpon continued to be shy of the fly till the end of the week. There seems to be a huge amount of bait around so perhaps they are just full??
