October 7, 2012 - October 13, 2012 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Each year they take a trip together without spouses to catch up with each others lives ~ great tradition! Both Phoebe and David learned to double haul over the few days they were here! It was appropriate that their guides were also siblings Emir and Kechu! Father son team Ed & Jason had no trouble with bonefish throughout their 3 days of fishing. There are too many first-bonefish-ever names to be listed with over 20 anglers landing their first bonefish ever this week. One boat landed as many as 40 in a day.
PERMIT: Lamont and his fishing buddy James landed permit while fishing with Captain Cesar as part of the Goldsboro Rod and Gun Club trip. Keith the from the same group landed a permit with Capt. Luis Paz on his second day out. Willis and Bob were not denied with 2 nice permit with Capitano Raton.
TARPON: Only one boat went out early in the week for tarpon, and Christian M. delivered with 2 nice 30 pound tarpon taken on Savannah Flats. The biggest challenge was the lack of sun, as Christian is a great caster! Captain Tomas was his guide. Late in the week only Lamont scored tarpon but some other hookups were had.
Other Species: We had a number of light tackle fishermen that scored big on many other species… ladyfish ( some big 10 pounders), jacks, cudas, 5 different species of snappers, triggerfish, grouper ( one huge one that got away at the boat) pompano, Palometa, puffer fish, grunts and I am sure many others.
FLIES THAT WORKED
Bones: Gotchas, CI Special, Crazy Charlie, tan, whitePermit: Christmas Island Special
Tarpon: Chartreuse toad
GUIDES OF THE WEEK
Captain Cesar for helping Lamont get his Grand Slam.
REPORT SUMMARY:
Grand Slam for Lamont fishing with Captain Cesar! His boat mate James barely missed the double grand slam, hooking but losing his tarpon! He also holds the unofficial record for being the oldest angler to ever do it. At 87, Lamont is my hero! : Thanks to Wes from the Goldsboro Rod and Gun club for bringing 21 of the finest men North Carolina hos to offer to El Pescador. A good week especially considering some tough cloud conditions most of the week. --Ed
