October 14, 2012 - October 20, 2012 Fishing Report

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONES: Congratulations for their first bonefish on a fly: Jody, Gary, Joe, Daryl, Frank, Tom, Paula, Annie , and newlywed Vince (along with his lovely bride Lauren) scored big with bonefish! We really enjoy honeymoon couples here at the lodge!

PERMIT: Jamie had a half dozen follows up in Bacalor Chico National Park, but none would eat. Turns out he was vindicated with his first permit 2 days later. “Perseverance and good casting pay off” said his guide Captain Kechu.

TARPON: Monte the younger out-fished his Dad (Monte the elder) with a nice tarpon with our legendary guide Capt. Carlos!. Returning guest Lee Landed 2 tarpon with Captain Cesar on Thursday while his boat buddy Ron jumped 2 but couldn’t get them to stick. But Wait.. there’s more!! Lisa (my own lovely bride) landed her second Belize tarpon while in a nearby boat Ken’s holy grail came to fruition – he landed a well deserved 30 pounder! To celebrate he stopped fishing for the rest of the day to bask in the memory of a good take and great fight. Adrian and Patrick had 2 tarpon each to the boat on Friday, their last day here. They jumped at least 10 that day with Capt. Luis Paz.

OTHER SPECIES: Lots of jacks, lady fish, cudas, snapper and a even triggerfish on a fly!

FLIES THAT WORKED

BONES: Crazy Charlie in pink/white/tan, gotchas, bitters, crab patterns, small Clausers, pretty much anything!

PERMIT: Sparse Gotcha with rubber legs, Skittal Mantis shrimp

TARPON: Chartreuse cockroach, chartreuse toad, tan bunny fly, white/blue Deceiver

REPORT SUMMARY:

The great weather allowed the pursuit of tarpon, permit and bonefish pretty much every day but Saturday. Bonefish were caught at will, but the permit were very finicky even though people got lots of shots daily. --Ed.
