October 28, 2012 - November 3, 2012 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Mary and Karen decided to ditch their husbands and form an all women's boat. Neither have any fly fishing experience. An afternoon lesson on the dock, a 7 am lesson before leaving the dock paid off. 32 bonefish to the boat with many more that were released early, Captain Luis P. guided them to this phenomenal day. ( By the way, the gents came back that afternoon with just a half dozen bonefish.) Many other first bonefish as well, Scott, Steve, Jeff Alayne, Jon all landing their first bonefish on a fly rod.
PERMIT: Harvey fished his departure day until noon. His permit and bonefish were to the boat by 9 am so the rest of the morning was spent in search of the grand slam, but the tarpon did not cooperate with him or his guide Captain Alex. Jon was convinced his rare “Look down” fish was so closely related to a permit, that it should count but after much lobbying Jon finally ceded it was indeed not a permit!
TARPON: Doug jumped an nice one his first day but Josh bested him by landing 3 tarpon on Tuesday. This is a dream come true for Josh after jumping a bunch last year with none to the boat. Josh was guided by Captain Sinoe.
OTHER SPECIES: Lots of jacks, a few ladyfish, snappers, barracudas
FLIES THAT WORKED
BONES: Christmas Island specials, Crazy Charlie in tan, gotchas, etc. PERMIT: Wiggle jig with shrimp TARPON: Josh had great success with his own ties (I am told the pattern is a secret) and white and blue deceivers.GUIDES OF THE WEEK
Two El Pescador Guides share the honor this week: Captain Luis P. for helping Mary and Karen bring 32 bonefish to the boat on their first ever day of fly fishing (AND skunking their husbands who finished the day with 6 bonefish) and Captain Sinoe who worked with Josh to land 3 tarpon on Tuesday.
