Oct 30, 2011 - Nov 09, 2011 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Ralph L. got into good numbers of bonefish with Kechu despite the cloudy start to the week. Kathy and Bill’s first bonefish came to the boat as well. And then Bill landed a really nice tarpon on fly at Savannah. Doug and Guy got their share with lots of bonefish. Martin was pleased with his bonefish on fly...and Richard and Mona Lisa said they had the best fishing day of their life yesterday with countless bonefish on light spin.
PERMIT: Lucky Terry from Utah boated a small permit on his first day ever fishing in salt water!
TARPON: Ted and Lisa landed nice tarpon while out on Savannah with guides Cesar and Erlindo . It was Teds first tarpon and Lisa’s first Belize tarpon. Savannah was on fire on Saturday and Bill landed his first tarpon. He tried to be stoic, but it wasn’t working. Lot’s of missed fish for various reasons. Mostly “angler error,” but “fish error” was involved as well. Of course the guides are always right!!
SNOOK: One big snook out on savannah Flats was landed by Guenter from Austria.
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONES: Chartreuse toad, Gotcha, Christmas Island Special, Crazy Charlie, Bonefish bitters, small crabs on the smart bonefish out front.
FOR TARPON: Blue and silver for tarpon patterns were working well on Savannah.
FOR PERMIT: Turneffe Crab, Mating Crab.
REPORT SUMMARY:
Overcast skies – no real storms just too much moisture in the air was the biggest factor making this a below average week for the anglers. Then things changed around and it got really pretty. We are thrilled everyone got to see Savannah in its glory. Everyone is in town, the bones, permit and tarpon. Just need the right moment to bring it all together. Honeymooners Richard and Victoria from the UK started their 18 day honeymoon this week! I want to thank Ed Blank for doing a great job here while I was gone. Wrangling guides and teaching our guests about this fishery is a natural for Ed. It’s great to be back here at El Pescador. I’m truly blessed to work around such incredible people. Guide of the week: Give it up for Captain Raton! His even temperament and teaching style worked really well for Terry from Utah. Terry was so excited about his first ever saltwater fly fishing trip with his work partner Ted, and Raton evened him right out. Terry didn’t realize it was such a big deal to land a permit on fly your first day out! Wow. Congrats to both Raton and Terry for a good boat team. --Ed and Lori-Ann
