Dec 4, 2011 - Dec 10, 2011 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES: Tough conditions for sight fishing, so guests were looking for tails and pushes from fish. Beginners found a lot of fun from fishing mud’s, but quickly wanted more. Tim and David were ecstatic; they couldn’t believe they caught so many bones on fly. It was their FIRST fly fishing trip, ever. Everett, Emmett and Raul all landed bones on fly, and so did Karen and John! Joe and Joy congratulations as well. Mike and son Eric, glad the bones corporated to help get Eric hooked! Donald, Don, Jim, Peter and Shawn – all landed bonefish on fly.
PERMIT: Jeff….way to go! On fly.
TARPON: Terry was here to fish with Captain Cesar for tarpon of fly and nothing else. He has shots and eats everyday, but none landed. The chartreuse and purple bunny was the fly.
SNOOK: Peter was beaming when he came back to the dock, “a new species on fly!” Apparently, they had several shots and then one charged the fly!
FLIES THAT WORKED
I was surprised that the chartreuse and purple bunny got the attention of the tarpon this week, but it did. Christmas Island Specials for bones and permit in orange, pink and yellow. Small crabs, even Merkin’s working for bones – the bigger ones, about 4 – 6 lbs.
REPORT SUMMARY:
Well, it was a real treat because one of my dear gal pals was around. Lynda loved exploring the lagoon once she got the kayak figured out. It was fun to just look for fish and blab about life. It filled my soul. We had weather this week – and we all want it to be perfect all the time, but that just doesn’t happen. We did work on our casting and double hauls were in full force for our 4:30 pm sessions. Thank you Don for making me a “super hero!” Wow. I’m working on my outfit. Karen was ecstatic and I give her best facial expression during practice. She also told me a story before leaving today about her bonefishing. She was using a “gotcha” and the thread came undone. Fishing was so good at the time so she kept using the fly with a lot of the original materials missing. She named the sparse fly her, “naked gotcha.” It worked. It was a special week for Don, Happy Birthday. It was a real treat to have you and your family celebrate here at El Pescador. And Everett returned after twenty-five years to celebrate his big 50 as well. Yahoooo.
Guide of the week: Persistence from Captain Sinoe got Jeff into permit on fly. Yes!
