Jan 24th - Jan 31st 2010 Fishing Report
I attended The Fly Fishing Show in Somerset last weekend. What a blast to see so many friends of El Pescador! We are looking forward to seeing you here soon. Im glad I was able to chat with people and reminisce about their great fish stories and experiences here. I fished today, full moon and all. Poling the canoe in the lagoon was nothing short of magic. I saw my first baby tarpon in my home lagoon about a 10 lb fish. Not ready for that. Then, I crashed into a small key, and flushed a beautiful owl (I need to look him up), but I had been hearing owls, thinking I was hearing owls, and now I'm glad to know they really are here! Landed two ladyfish, and 2 very satisfying bones tailing in the lee too much fun for one gal on a Sunday.
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONES:
Nice bones were seen in the lee 4 and 5 lb bones on the flats, which made bonefishing this week a blast. All angling guests caught bonefish this week. Mike loved the nice bone in front of the lodge, as his buddies were packing up and heading back to real life as a veterinarian. God knows, we just giggle when a nice catch is witnessed.
PERMIT: Schools of permit were found, and 3 were caught. Several were broken off.
JACKS: Big jacks were seen in the lagoon, but not targeted.
TARPON: They are back on the flats
kind of spooky, but a few ate! None landed, but at least 5 jumped. As well as hearts.
SNOOK: We are thinking of the great loss Florida had with the giant fish kill. We did see Mr. Snook this week, but he didnt want a fly. Who knows?
FLIES THAT "Would Have" WORKED
FOR BONES: Christmas Island Specials, Charlies and Gotchas. Tan, gold, and pink patterns. Some new patterns that came from tying in the bar!
FOR TARPON: Black Death Tarpon Bunnies were tossed, and they jumped a few tarpon!
FOR PERMIT: Orange Christmas Island Specials and Merkins.
