July 6th – July 12th, 2015 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING
Our 87 year old friend Tom was hunting for permit and tarpon but was cruelly denied. He did land a few bonefish. Justin and Shawn had a blast hooking up the bones, Shelly, Clay, Kim, Dale, Jody, Michelle, Chris, Ed, Connie, Tom, Calvin, Lucinda, Seth, Brittny, Bob, Jim, Carter, Jeff, Graham, John, Tom, with Jon and Pat rounding out the bonefish field!
Permit for father son team Mike and Michael, Jody got a beautiful 18 pounder, Cory got three permit , the beautiful Shelly landed a nice one on her second cast on first and only day on the water, Clay landed a few, The crew from Mississippi tore up some permit ( Jeff, Graham, Tom, John) I know there are a few more winners for permit this week so email me and I will fix the report, I just can’t think at the moment.
Mark started off the tarpon week with a solid 40 pounder and Dave jumped one just as big. Ed got 2 big tarpon early on with a great one late in the week. Seth got a nice tarpon, hooked a few more. Josh and Ricki returned for their 6th trip and normally Josh is a tarpon whisperer, but not so this week. The wind was the biggest factor in keeping Josh from his beloved Savannah flats that were just too windy to fish. He jumped a few but did not get one to the boat.
Ladyfish were a favorite, Jacks were very cooperative, several species of snappers, Young Calvin landed a few snook. Some Spanish Mackerel and many other species were landed on the reef trips that went out... Triple tail, trigger fish, groupers, barracudas all came to the boat.
Almost but no winners this week.
Flies that worked:
Bonefish:Pretty much if it was in front of a bonefish it worked, but our guides seem to like the simple lead eye CI special.
Permit: Mantis shrimp, Christmas Island Special, Peterson Shrimp, small avalons.
Tarpon:Olive Green toad, Black death, Chartreuse Toad, Purple/Black bunny
: Although it was windy it was very productive with lots of tarpon hooked but just a few landed. Permit continued to be the surprise of the year with exceptional results.
