Oct 16 - Oct 22, 2016 Fishing Report
WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING
We had some first-caught bonefish days, some high quantity bonefish days and some big fish this week! Bruce got things off to a great start with 23 bonefish for his first day out, Dustin and Caitlin went out for their first ever bonefish as did many other guests. Sara was especially proud of her first ever bonefish. Our biggest fish of the week was estimated at 6 pounds!! A brute!
Chris had a fabulous week here at EL Pescador. Being a frequent guest here he is used to the ups and downs that fishing brings; but he was on top of the world with a great permit that was part of his soft slam. Bruce got a dream permit, Caitlin showed how it is done with 2 in one day, her beau Dustin got 1, Geoff landed a nice one on his last day.
Chris got a huge one right off the bat that ended up being part of his soft slam for the week. Dave got a beautiful fish, Lisa got a Silver King (lost another half dozen) Geoff ‘s two tarpon were part of his soft slam, Dave got a 50-pound monster to the boat, and many folks hooked up but didn’t land any of them (which is similar to the average landing rate for tarpon - at about 10%).
Barracuda, 2 kinds of Jacks, Snook, Snappers and lots more!
Two soft slam awards go to returning guests Chris and Geoff. They both landed at least one tarpon and one permit and one bonefish during their trip to El Pescador.
Flies that worked:
Bonefish: Christmas Island Special, Crazy charlies, Gotcha.
Permit: White raghead crab, Spawning shrimp, Merkin ( all tan), avalon.
Tarpon:White toad, Black death, White deceiver, EP pinfish.
Orvis’ Bonefish Bonanza filled the lodge with great spirits and lots of fish stories over the 4 nights they were here. Orvis’s host (Dan Davala from Orvis Travel in Vermont) brought a combination of repeat guests and new saltwaterites looking for anything from the promised bonefish to the hallowed permit. They caught them all, including the two soft slams!
