I have been coming to Ambergris Caye for almost sixty years and have lived here periodically for fifty years with property interests from south to north.  My wife and I have experienced many resorts on the island that have come and gone. For many years I have fished the flats, mangroves, inner reef and sport fishing that is enjoyed just outside the reef . I preface this review with my Belizean background because I believe I have a unique insight to the resorts and other outfitters here on Ambergris Caye.  With that said, El Pescador has been a five star staple on the island for angling, first class accommodations and staff.  It is unsurpassed for your island paradise dreams and I have traveled and sailed  most of the western hemisphere's fishing havens.   El Pescador is truly a world class destination resort and the new owner, John, has the lodge looking fantastic with incredible cuisine and accommodating staff. Their guides will get you on the fish!!  Your non-angling friends and family members will also enjoy the amenities that now included diving. I highly and enthusiastically  recommend El Pescador. We think everything about El Pescador is fantastic! From the pick up at the airport, to relaxing at the pool, to fantastic dinners, etc. The fishing is about as good as it gets. The guides know their stuff and are going to show some great fishing. The lodge and scenery are fantastic. The atmosphere (vibe) is just what one could hope for. But what makes this place extra special are the people. And we mean everyone, from the management to the cooks to the groundskeepers and so on. They make you feel like family. And we look to them with the same feeling. And because it is so great, we make new friends among El PEscador staff and other visitors every time. We cannot wait to return!! The only possible issue I can think of is sargassum. It is a relatively new for Belize. Some years are worse than others and El Pescador is doing what they can, but it is not a local problem.

We’ve traveled to many beautiful places over the years, and had we not experienced El Pescador, some of them might have felt truly great. But after staying here, nothing else compares. It’s the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. The boys spend their days fishing while the girls lounge by the pool, enjoy massages, shop in town, visit the chocolate factory, or head to Secret Beach. There’s something for everyone — and every single detail feels effortless. Other resorts might look more luxurious on the surface, especially in other countries, but the experience at El Pescador is on a whole different level. The staff are what make it unforgettable — they all know your name, treat you like family, and go above and beyond with genuine warmth and care. Every special request is met with a smile, and the service is consistently outstanding. It’s also wonderfully casual — you can walk straight from the boat to dinner in your fishing clothes and feel completely at home. The family-style meals are intimate and absolutely delicious. I’m a picky eater, and I still look forward to every dinner. Honestly, I can’t imagine going anywhere else on the island to eat — or to stay. We were part of an Orvis trip where some of the people were fishing and some were doing other excursions.  The service was exceptional.  Everyone was so helpful with suggestions for activities, helping with missing luggage, and even providing gluten free and vegetarian meals for our family.  The food was so delicious and served family style so you got to know the other guests which was an extra bonus. The fishing was absolutely fantastic with many of the guests getting grand slams catching tarpons, permits, and bonefish.  The guides were experts and we all had fun and successful fishing days. Overall, I would recommend El Pescador to couples, individuals, and families!  It has something for everyone!

Landed a few fish, got a massage, fed some tarpon, saw a few manatee's and had some seriously amazing food and drinks! I have allergies and this was the first place I had NO anxiety about eating! Everyone knew I was the one with allergies and had separate food if need be and it was all soooo good!!!!
